ARGENTINA



Catamarca:

Things to do: Mountaineering, trekking, horseback riding, fishing, mountain bike, among other activities.
Places worth visiting: San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca, capital city, where you can visit The Cathedral (La Catedral), the 25 de mayo main square (25 de Mayo Plaza principal), The Archeological Museum (Museo Arqueologico), Museum of fine arts (Museo de Bellas Artes) Folkloric Museum (Museo Folklorico).
The Puna of Catamarca, Antofagasta de la Tierra: Land of Volcanoes and Salt pans. 3,500 m above the sea level, it is surrounded by volcanoes, salt pans, lagoons, archaeological sites, and mines.

Chaco

Things to do: Rural tourism, safaris, canoeing, trekking, fishing and fauna excursions among others. If you want to relax you can enjoy the Thermal Spas in Presidencia Roque Saenz Peña.
Places worth visiting: Resistencia, Capital city of Chaco Province has an important cultural richness.
Chaco National Park: Full of vegetation, trees that are 15 meters high and different animal species. The best season to visit the Park is between April and October.

Chubut

Things to do: Trekking, rafting, fishing and diving, among other activities.
Places worth visiting: Peninsula Valdes: It has a surface of 4000 km2. It is a place where several mammal species live. There are also many bird colonies. There is a town called Puerto Piramides which is also worth visiting. You can see the whales from May to December, Penguins from October to March, and Sea Lions, Sea elephants and birds all year long, Orcas from October to April and dark dolphins from December to March.
Puerto Madryn: It is the national capital of diving, and it is surrounded by crystal clear water and aquatic fauna.

Cordoba

Things to do: Trekking, horseback riding, mountaineering, safaris, fishing (from October to May), climbing. You can also visit estancias or ranches, among other activities.
Places worth visiting: Cordoba Capital city: this is a big city with plenty of cultural and recreational activities.
Cerro Colorado Natural and Archaeological Park, featuring Hispanic cave paintings
Jesuit estancias: in these traditional ranches you can learn about traditions and habits of the province.
Cosquin Festival: a folklore festival held during the second fortnight of January.
Villa Carlos Paz: this city has an important infrastructure, with crystal clear rivers and the flow of Lago San Roque.
The main attractions in this city are: Dique San Roque, Reloj CU-CU and Monumento a la Cruz.
La Falda: this city is known for its streams and its fabulous climate. You can visit the Museum Pierre de Coubertin, which has an exhibition of sport-related pieces. Also, a Tango Festival is held every year, of which the most recognized artists take part. Some interesting options to enjoy aquatic activities are: Dique La Falda and Siete Cascadas.

Corrientes

Things to do: Fishing (from March to September), visiting estancias or ranches, trekking and riding, among other activities.
In December, you can also enjoy a Chamamé festival (typical music from this Province).
Places worth visiting: Esteros del Ibera: an ecosystem that includes diverse species of fauna and vegetation.
Yacireta Hydroelectric Dam: It began generating energy in 1994 with its first turbine. Nowadays, it has 20 turbines with an energy power of 4050 Mw and energetic capacity of 19080 GW/h (this represents 40% of the energy consumed in Argentina).

Entre Rios

Things to do: Fishing at the Parana and Uruguay rivers (form February to September) to catch Dorado, Surubí and other fish species; Gualeguaychu Carnival: one of the most important carnivals in Argentina, held every year in February. You can also relax at the Thermal spas in La Paz, María Grande, Chajari, Federación, Concordia, Colón, Villa Elisa and Gualeguaychu. Enjoy the Casinos in La Paz, Parana, Concordia, Colón, Concepcion del Uruguay and Gualeguaychu.
Places worth visiting: Paraná: the capital city of the province has several museums (such as Museo Histórico and Museo de Ciencias Naturales y Antropologicas) and a very important Cathedral, among others attractions. You may also visit "El Palmar National Park", a palm forest surrounded by rivers and abundant wild fauna.

Formosa

Things to do: Fishing, trekking, safaris, sailing in rivers, visiting estancias or ranches among other activities.
Places worth visiting: Rio Pilcomayo National Park, with a surface of 47.454 hectares. This Park has different kinds of trees, such as the "Laurel" and the "Guayaibi". It's Fauna is composed by 35 fish species, more than 30 species of amphibians and 6 mammal species, 4 feline species and 3 species of monkeys. Formosa Natural Reserve: it's an area of environmental protection created in 1968. Its surface includes 10.000 hectares and it is surrounded by all kinds of herbs, trees and animals which are adapted to extreme conditions. Its main feature is a dry forest with different kinds of trees such as "The Quebracho blanco" and "Palo borracho", among others. Animals in this Reserve: Tatú Carreta (symbol of the park), the ant bear, and other mammals like the grey wolf.

Jujuy

Things to do: Trekking, horseback riding, mountaineering at the Quebrada de Humahuaca, among other activities.
Relaxing at Termas de Reyes. You can also enjoy some carnivals in La Quiaca and Quebrada de Humahuaca
Places worth visiting: San Salvador de Jujuy is the capital of the province, where many government historical houses and monuments stand, such as "The Cabildo" and "The Cathedral". Quebrada de Humahuaca: an Andean valley of 155 kilometers of extension surrounded by mountainous chains. The villages of the Quebrada are linked to ancestral traditions and history. The Quebrada de Humahuaca is known for its magnificent landscape and archaeological richness.

La Pampa

Things to do: Fishing, trekking, visiting estancias or ranches among other activities.
Places worth visiting: Parque Luro National Reserve: The Park is well-known for its two main features: Nature itself and History and Culture. The Park is inhabited by the Calden and the "Ciervo colorado" (red deer) and 160 other bird species. The "Castle Museum" (Museo El Castillo) was declared a National Historic Monument.

La Rioja

Things to do: fishing, sailing, ,ountaineering, trekking among other activities.
Places worth visiting: La Rioja Capital city: Cross Hill (Cerro de la Cruz) with an observatory and a meteorological center. It is also a place where you can practice paragliding. Quebrada de los Sauces: a place where you can see summery residences of the La Rioja society. There are also clubs, campings and spas. Church and runs of "the Padrecitas": this place is the destination of many peregrinations. Every second Sunday of August a festival is held here.
Arauco city: there is a majestic olive tree planted on the XVII century. You can also visit olive and olive oil production factories
Chilecito: it has the biggest production of grapes in La Rioja. There are several vineyards and wine cellars. You can also visit the "Botanic Garden" (Jardin Botanico) which features over 1100 species of cactus.
Talampaya National Park between Sañogasta and Los Colorados hills, with abundant typical flora and fauna of that region. There are many exotic rock formations in Talampaya and several archaeological and geological traces remain.

Mendoza

Things to do: Rafting, skiing, mountaineering, trekking, fishing, among other activities.
Places worth visiting: with more than 1221 wine cellars, the grape harvest is one of the main activities in this province. The "Fiesta Nacional de la Vendimia", a festivity that celebrates the grape harvest is held every year at the beginning of March.
Las Leñas (south of Mendoza): this is one of the most important Skiing centers in the country. It also has a 5 stars hotel, many 4 stars hotels, pubs, shopping malls and other attractions.
San Rafel: Rio Athuel Canyon, with its wonderful geological landscape. You can also visit "Los Reyunos", with an artificial lake in which aquatic sports and fishing are usually practiced.
Aconcagua: It was declared Province Park in 1983 with 71.000 hectares and many valuable natural resources and a great diversity of animals and vegetation. But the main attraction is the Aconcagua Mount, 6,962 m high, the highest peak in the western hemisphere.

Misiones

Things to do: Trekking in the jungle of the Iguazu National Park and fishing, among other activities.
Places worth visiting: Iguazu Falls: Iguazu National Park was created in 1934 and covers an area of approximately 67.620 hectares. The Park is recognized for its natural heritage, which includes: a native flora with over 2000 species, 450 kinds of birds and 80 kinds of mammals. The large variety of flora and fauna species and the waterfalls are some of the main attractions of the Park. The waterfalls were originated 200 thousands years ago in the place that today is known as "the 3 frontiers" marked with stone pillars, where the Iguazu River and the Parana River meet. You can enjoy 275 waterfalls in the shape of a half moon flow over a drop of 70 meters.
The Jesuit ruins is another interesting site to visit.

Neuquen

Things to do: Trekking, rafting, safaris, fishing, skiing (from June to September), among other activities
Places worth visiting:Villa La Angostura: this valley is located on the northwestern limit of the Nahuel Huapi Lake. Tourism is its main activity. In winter you can enjoy skiing at the "Cerro Bayo"
Nahuel Huapi Lake: this lake is of Glacier origin, and is located on the lake region of northern Patagonia between the provinces of Rio Negro and Neuquén. It is located within the Nahuel Huapi Park, the oldest National Park in Argentina, which is famous for its wild life.
Seven Lakes route (La Ruta de los Siete Lagos): One of the most attractive routes in the country. A 200 Km-long itinerary joining San Martin de los Andes with Villa La Angostura and surrounded by snow-covered peaks and forests, with a view of the seven lakes: Machónico, Hermoso, Falkner, Escondido, Correntoso, Espejo Chico and Villarino.
Arrayanes Forest (Bosque de Arrayanes): located in Los Arrayanes National Park, the forest shelters hundred year-old trees, which can reach more than 15 meters of height.

Rio Negro

Things to do: Trekking, rafting, mountaineering, skiing, mountain biking, among other activities.
Places worth visiting: Many alternatives for skiing: Cerro Catedral (the most important in South America) and Cerro Perito Moreno (25 km away from El Bolson).
El Bolson: the city has a population of 18.000 inhabitants. It is a mountain valley with a magnificent landscape. You can practice several activities such as trekking, rafting and mountain biking.
Bariloche: this city is an important tourist center to practice outdoors activities.

Salta

Things to do: Trekking, horseback riding, ecotourism, rural tourism, canoeing, fishing, among other activities.
Places worth visiting: "Train to the clouds" - Tren a las nubes: And extraordinary experience in a 219 Km long railway, starting at the provincial capital and crossing the viaduct La Polvorilla, which is 4,182 m above the sea level.
Calchaquies valley: a trip to historical and colonial valleys and spectacular landscapes.

San Juan

Things to do: Mountaineering, rafting, fishing, among other activities. You can also enjoy the San Juan Casino.
Places worth visiting: San Juan, capital of the province: You can visit Sarmiento´s birthplace, one of the Founding Fathers of Argentina. There is also an important Cathedral built with a modern style. You can also visit an Archaeological Museum with proofs and testimonies of the native culture that used to live in this province.
San Juan is a thermal land; its main thermal center is Pismanta (181 Km away from the city of San Juan) and La Laja (24 Km away from the city of San Juan).
Ischigualasto, The Moon Valley: 60.000 hectares, a large valley with paleontological richness and original fossils of plants, animals and dinosaurs dating 200 million years ago.

San Luis

Things to do: Trekking, fishing, ecotourism, horseback riding among other activities.
Places worth visiting: Sierras de Las Quijadas: with its beautiful landscape, it was declared a National Park in 1999. It is also a natural museum of dinosaurs tracks and clay sculptures worked by water and air, defining a unique landscape.
Merlo: A valley where you can enjoy many adventure-related activities, but you will also find museums, craft markets, casinos and pubs.

Santa Cruz

Things to do: Trekking, safaris, fishing, rafting, among other activities.
Places worth visiting: Los Glaciares National Park (Parque Nacional Los Glaciares): it is located in the area known as Austral Andes in Argentina, in the southwest of Santa Cruz. It was declared "World Heritage" by UNESCO in 1981.
This park features a scenario of mountains, lakes and woods, including a large portion of the Andes practically under the ice and the snow to the west, and the arid Patagonian steppe to the east. Its name refers to the glaciers that are formed on the Ice Caps, at 1500 meters over the sea level to flow down to 200 mts.
In the southern area of the Park you will find the most famous glacier in Argentina: Perito Moreno. The closest town is El Calafate, center of all the activities and services.
El Calafate, declared national capital of the glaciers, is a tourist villa of almost 7.000 inhabitants, the closest to the great Perito Moreno glacier, in Los Glaciares National Park.
Bosques Petrificados Natural Monument: 150 million years ago, the Jurassic period exhibited forest with gigantic trees. Then, various earth extensions were buried, and lots of forest were covered by ashes and became petrified. After a long time and by the action of the wind and the rain some zones of these "Bosques Petrificados" where discovered, featuring trees like the "Araucarias" which are 35 meters long and have a diameter of 3 meters.

Santa Fe

Things to do: Ecotourism, safaris, horseback riding, sailing, fishing, rural tourism and visiting estancias or ranches.
Places worth visiting: In Santa Fe: you can visit several museums and more than 140 regional festivals that take place during the year.
At Cayastá the ruins of "Santa Fe la vieja" remain, considered a historical monument.
Rosario: In this city, the biggest in Santa Fe, you can find interesting museums such as the Museum of Fine Arts "Juan B Castagnino" (Museo Municipal de Bellas Artes "Juan B Castagnino"), Historical Museum "Julio Marc" (Museo Histórico provincial "Julio Marc"), Natural Science Museum "Angel Gallardo" (Museo de Ciencias Naturales "Angel Gallardo").
Theatres: Broadway Theatre (Teatro Broadway), Comedy Theatre (Teatro La Comedia),, The Circle Theatre (Teatro El Circulo).
Dancing water fountain (Fuente de Aguas Danzantes): Magnificent show with water, lights and sounds (at Parque de la Independencia)

Santiago del Estero

Things to do: Fishing, mountain bike, horseback riding and thermal tourism, among other activities. Thermal tourism: "Termas de Rio Hondo" are the main thermal centre in Latin America. Their water is composed by minerals that are said to have a healing value. Winter is the ideal time to visit the several thermal spas.
Places worth visiting: Santiago Del Estero capital city: Anthropology and Natural Science Museum (Museo Antropologico y Ciencias Naturales) and Fine Arts Museum (Museo de Bellas Artes) In "Parque Aguirre" there is a zoo with important local species, a vivarium and an artificial lake. You can also enjoy in the capital city: San Francisco Convent (Convento de San Francisco), a temple with a neo-gothic style which includes the Sacred Art Museum (Museo de Arte Sacro) containing religious jewels from the XVII, XVIII and XIX century.
The following festivities are worth visiting at the capital city: Fiesta Nacional de la Chacarera (folklore expression), held during the first weekend of January. It takes place in a football stadium.
Festival de la Salamanca in the city of La Banda (7 km away from the Capital City): it is held during the last two weeks of February at a Football stadium. It features a Folklore and dance festival, regional meals and a craft market.
Many smaller carnivals are held in March.
Fiesta Nacional de la canasta (Basket National Festival) in September: it takes place at the city of Termas de Rio Hondo.

Tierra del Fuego

Things to do: Fishing, ecotourism, skiing among other activities.
Places worth visiting: Rio Grande: is the capital city of fly-cast, because of the abundance of trout living in the surrounding rivers.
Ushuaia: This is the southernmost city in the world. You can visit the "Museum of the end of the world" (Museo del Fin del Mundo), The "end of the world train" (Tren del Fin del Mundo) to enjoy nature and history on a train ride, and The Craftsmen Gallery (Paseo de los Artesanos).

Tucuman

Things to do: Trekking, fishing, ecotourism, horseback-riding, rural tourism, mountaineering and safaris among other activities.
You can relax and enjoy the Thermal waters in Taco Ralo.
Places worth visiting: San Miguel de Tucumán, capital city of the Province, has been declared a "Historical city" in 1999 for the richness of its cultural heritage. Independencia Square (Plaza Independencia) where the Liberty statue stands out as well as remarkable buildings surrounding the square which reflected different architectural periods: The Government House (Casa de Gobierno), Casa Padilla Museum (Museo Casa Padilla), Temple of San Francisco (Templo de San Francisco), The Cathedral church (La Iglesia Catedral) and the Folkloric museum (Museo Folklorico).
Tucuman also has several natural reserves and parks such as: The Provincial Park Cumbres Calchaquies with a surface of 40.000 hectares in high mountain areas, 3000 m above the sea level. Campo de los Alisos National Park is also a main attraction.
Aguas Chiquitas Natural Reserve: this zone features abundant vegetation although the main attraction is the cascade: huge water streams with a 40 m fall to a natural pond.
Natural Reserve La Angostura: it was created to protect and preserve aquatic birds, most of them threatened by extinction and its restricted habitat.
